Year-Long Highway Safety Effort Begins With Checkpoint On Wednesday
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Seat Belt Checkpoint during the daylight hours of Wednesday, October 1. Deputies will be checking vehicle occupants for proper safety protection including seat belts and child safety seats. They will also be checking for other violations such as expired inspections tags.
Wednesday's checkpoint marks the first in a year-long campaign of weekly checkpoints designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of Lafourche Parish safer for all motorists.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said this year-long is not designed for the sole purpose of punishing violators but to bring awareness to motorists about these violations, and bring everyone into compliance. Sheriff Webre said failure to use a seat belt or utilize proper equipment can be just as fatal of a mistake as driving under the influence of alcohol.
