With heavy rain expected, residents encouraged to check drainage ditches

With heavy rains expected in the area over the next few days, parish officials are urging residents to check drainage ditches and areas around their homes and businesses for any obstacles that may impede the flow of rainwater.

“Checking the canals around your home and clearing any obstacles will greatly aid the flow of water and help to minimize any potential flooding from this coming weather event,” said Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle.

Forecasts are calling for the possibility of as much as 12 inches of rain to fall in the region beginning Thursday and lasting through Saturday.

“We are asking people to be cautious once it begins raining and to take precautions while driving on wet roads. Citizens may also keep up to date with current weather forecasts via the National Weather Service or local media,” Cantrelle said.
