Water fee to increase beginning Jan. 1
Lafourche Parish residents will see a slight increase in their water bills at the beginning of the year.
During this year's regular session, the state Legislature authorized an increase in the Safe Drinking Water Fee beginning on Jan. 1.
The current fee will be increased from $3.20 per connection per year for community water systems to $12 per connection per year. This will result in a $1 increase for all customers. The water system will keep 5 percent of the increased fee.
Half of the current fee of $3.20, or $1.60, will be collected for July to December.
Lafourche Parish Water District services approximately 32,000 customers with an average monthly bill around $27, officials said.
