Wallace Center To Host Community Outreach Event This Weekend
The Wallace Center in Raceland will serve as the site for a visit from Glory of God Church in New Orleans on Saturday, May 9.
The church will conduct an outreach event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, located at 3603 Highway 308, according to center director Heather Benoit.
During the event, the church’s ministry group will be talking with area residents about several services they are hoping to begin providing to the community living near the center.
Benoit said some of the ideas the church has mentioned to her are life skills activities and establishing a prayer group.
“They (ministry group) will be providing more details on their plans to the residents and families who attend the outreach event on Saturday,” she said.
Benoit added the ministry group will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch as well as bringing games for the children and youth to interact with.
Along with hosting regular weekend activities for children and adults, the Wallace Center at 3603 Highway 308, hosts a program called Beyond the Bell. Since February, Benoit and several dedicated volunteers have spent their afternoons assisting local Raceland youth with their homework along with providing enrichment activities after school.
Beyond the Bell, which takes place Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., has seen an average of 35 children attending the program on a daily basis.
Benoit said she welcomes anyone interested in volunteering their time to this worthwhile program to email her at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit Facebook at facebook.com/beyondthebellraceland for more information.
