Vietnam War artifacts requested by local library
Officials with the Bayou Lafourche Folklife and Heritage Museum are planning a temporary exhibit featuring the Vietnam War. Members of the museum’s exhibit committee are looking for help from Vietnam War veterans who could lend artifacts such as photos, medals and other merit awards, weapons and uniforms that will help tell the story of the war.
Committee members would like veterans to provide a studio photo of themselves in uniform. Photos are copied at the museum, so original get returned to the owner immediately. The exhibit will include recorded oral histories from local veterans.
If you are interested in participating, call Gary Acosta at 985-688-8637. The museum, 110 Main St., Lockport, is housed in a national register of historic places. The museum features artifacts and exhibits of what life was like for the early settlers to the area.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
