Veterans Welcome At Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest

HOUMA - Self-employment might be the right choice for a Louisiana veteran. The upcoming Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest: For Youth and First-Time Entrepreneurs can help to make that determination.

“This event will give veterans and other interested people the opportunity to explore the possibility of opening their own business,” said Larry L. Jones, Southeast Louisiana Area Chairman and Louisiana Employer Outreach Director for the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. “The fest will walk them through the decision-making process to learn if opening their own business or venture is the right thing for them. After the fest, they should have learned enough to make the ‘go, no-go’ decision.”

The inaugural event is slated for Thursday, June 20, through Friday, June 21, at the Houma- Terrebonne Civic Center.

Spearheaded by Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Terrebonne Parish Economic Development Authority (TEDA), the purpose of the conference is to teach attendees the basics of establishing and growing a business – allowing them to return home with comprehensive knowledge to complete a business plan.

In addition to veterans, the statewide entrepreneurial symposium is open to high school juniors and seniors, university students, teachers and other interested adults.

The conference agenda will include a number of keynote presentations and breakout sessions led by business and industry leaders.

Among those scheduled to appear are Laura Valenti, Mrs. Louisiana International 2013 and founder of the SHE-Selling consulting firm; James Griffith, owner of Care Inc.; and Marvin O. Smith, president of Spectrum Marketing Group and Authorized Local Expert for Constant Contact.
