Unrestrained driver killed in early morning crash
Shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning, Troop C responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 near the Lefort Bypass Road. The crash took the life of 23-year-old Brian Jones of Thibodaux.
The preliminary investigation revealed Jones was traveling south on LA 1 in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, when for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and struck a 2017 Dodge Journey that was traveling north on LA 1.
The Journey was being driven by 25-year-old Brooke Ogwynne of Gheens.
Jones was not wearing his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Ogwynne was wearing her seat belt and suffered critical injuries. She was transported to the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service and later was flown to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance Air Med.
Impairment is unknown as a factor in this crash. A standard toxicology report is pending on the part of Jones through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. A blood sample was obtained from Ogwynne and the toxicology results are pending through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
