Two dead in shooting after Mississippi parade
PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (AP) — South Mississippi authorities say a shooting after a Mardi Gras parade in Pass Christian Sunday killed two men and wounded four other people.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove tells local news media that 29-year-old Carlos Bates of Gulfport and 43-year-old Isiah Major III of Bay St. Louis both died at the scene. The victims' hometowns are near Pass Christian on Mississippi's Gulf Coast.
Pass Christian Police Chief Tim Hendricks tells the Sun Herald and WLOX-TV that four other people were hospitalized.
The shootings came a day after accidents in separate south Louisiana parades injured a man and a woman. A rider in a gay men's parade in Lafayette Saturday fell from the top level of a float, and a float in the Baton Rouge Spanish Town parade hit a female pedestrian.
