Thibodaux Police task force arrests 50 fugitives in 3 weeks

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Thibodaux Police say a new task force has made 50 arrests and cleared 68 warrants in less than three weeks.

Lt. John Sutton tells The Daily Comet that it's the department's first team created to find fugitives. He's leader of the team, which also includes Officers Richard Queen and John Fryer.

The unit has captured people wanted for burglaries and shootings and also helped other agencies in Lafourche and surrounding parishes. He says 29 of the arrests were for minor offences, and the people just got summonses with new court dates.

Thibodaux Police spokesman David Melancon says no new positions were added, and the officers are not working overtime.
