SLHS JROTC bring home awards from drill competition

On Saturday, October 10th the JROTC Tarpon Battalion travelled to Central Lafourche High School to compete against five other JROTC teams in the first of three matches to be held this year.

The Tarpon competition Color Guard, consisting of Logan Bouffanie, Cameron Smith, and Sierra Colson was commanded by Cadet Captain Kimberly Perez and won 1st place.

The Armed inspection team, consisting cadets Cameron Smith, Morris Charpentier, Angela Verdin, Ruby Miranne, Kimberly Perez, Zachary Wilkerson, Lance Bouffanie, Kenneth Gordon, Kylie Plaisance, Breezy Wainwright, and Drake Green was commanded by cadet Command Sergeant Major Sierra Colson and won 2nd place.

The Exhibition Drill Team, consisting of cadets Ruby Miranne, Angela Verdin, Drake Green, Lance Bouffanie, Zachary Wilkerson, Kylie Plaisance, Morris Charpentier, and Cameron Smith was commanded by Cadet Major Kenneth Gordon and won 2nd place.

The Regulation Drill Team, consisting of Lance Bouffanie, Kaitlyn Serigny, Drake Green, Kylie Plaisance, Sierra Colson, Kelsey Rogers, Ruby Miranne, Morris Charpentier, Cameron Smith, Kenneth Gordon, Zachary Wilkerson, and Angela Verdin was commanded by Cadet Captain Kimberly Perez and won 3rd place.

A knock-out drill, with over 125 cadets participating was held and resulted in cadet Major Kenneth Gordon winning 2nd place and cadet Sergeant Drake Green winning 3rd place.
Team members Kaley Griffin, Destiny Gaspard, Courtnee Guidry, and Saress Cheramie were on hand to support the team and available to fill in in case alternates were needed.

Overall competition scores resulted in the Tarpon Battalion teams winning 2nd place overall for the 5 school event.

Everyone is invited to attend the next drill meet at 9:00 a.m. on November 14th at the Larose Civic Center Pavilion.
