Seat Belt Checkpoint moved to Thursday, July 16
The seat belt checkpoint originally slated for Wednesday, July 15 has been moved to Thursday, July 16.
Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Thursday, July 9 along the northbound lane of LA Highway 1 in the Mathews area. A total of 1,036 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported violations: 1 no seat belt, 11 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 1 vehicle with no inspection sticker, 1 improper child restraint, 1 expired registration, 1 no driver's license.
