Saturday openings helping animals find new homes

Mathews, LA – The Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter (LPAS) in Thibodaux experienced another successful Saturday opening with five cats and dogs finding their forever homes, according to shelter manager Hilary Knight.

When combined with the adoptions from the Saturday opening in February, LPAS has adopted out eight animals with even more going to rescue groups.

Additionally, eight people have signed-up for Lafourche Parish’s Spay/Neuter Program thanks to the Saturday openings held in February and March.

Knight said these openings wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the efforts of community volunteers.

“The volunteers put up an awesome play area in the front of the shelter that will be used as a doggie meet and great area. We hope that next month will be even more successful,” she said.

The next Saturday opening is scheduled for April 4. On this day, the shelter will be once again be open from 8 a.m. to noon for adoptions as well as spay and neuter sign-ups.
