Raceland Man Arrested For Dwi At Nearly Three Times Legal Limit

Wilfred Harris, Jr.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced deputies a Raceland man on multiple charges including DWI and marijuana possession early Thursday morning. Wilfred Harris Jr. (B/M, D.O.B. 10/02/82) of 1594 Highway 182, Apartment 4, was found to have a blood alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit.

Deputies utilizing radar in the Raceland area along LA Highway 308 found a car to be traveling 56 miles per hour in a 40-miles-per-hour zone. The deputies activated their lights and sirens on their patrol unit and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle continued along Highway 308, eventually turning onto Nelson Street. Deputies followed the driver as he continued traveling onto several other streets, eventually turning back onto Highway 308 headed southbound. The driver then turned onto Highway 182 and came to a stop at an apartment, later determined to be the driver's residence.  Deputies made contact with the driver and immediately took him into custody. He was identified as Wilfred Harris Jr., and deputies noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. Harris admitted to having been drinking, and performed poorly on a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. He later submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol content of 0.235g%, which is nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08g%. During the traffic stop, deputies also discovered Harris to be in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana. He was also found to have no valid driver's license.  Harris was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with DWI (1st Offense), Possession of Marijuana (3rd and Subsequent Offenses), Flight from an Officer, Speeding, and no driver's license. He is being held in lieu of $31,200 bond as set by Judge Walter I Lanier III, and he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.
