Public Meeting Today To Discuss Airport Access Corridor Project, Connector Road And Vertical Lift Span Bridge
Mathews, LA – Lafourche Parish Government, in partnership with the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) will be holding a public meeting from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today, April 22, to discuss the proposed construction of the South Lafourche Airport Access Corridor Project, a connector road and vertical lift span bridge.
The meeting, which is scheduled to take place at Lafourche Parish’s South Lafourche Public Library, 16241 E. Main St., Cut Off, will provide additional details about how a direct connection between the existing Airport Road and LA 3235 would improve safety, quality of life, sustainability, and the economic competitiveness of Lafourche Parish, Port Fourchon, South Lafourche Leonard Miller, Jr. Airport, the State of Louisiana, and nation.
Completion of this project will allow residential, commercial, and airport traffic to divert from rural, two lane undivided highways with high crash rates (LA 1 and LA 308) to a safer and more efficient four lane divided highway (LA 3235). The project will consist of approximately 0.4 miles of new connector road from LA 3235 to LA 1, which runs adjacent to Bayou Lafourche to the west, as well as 0.1 miles of new, vertical lift span bridge connecting LA 1 to LA 308 and Airport Road over Bayou Lafourche.
A public, “open house” style, meeting will be held at the following location and time to provide citizens an opportunity to view alternative plans and ask questions of the project team.
