Police identify body found on I-10 as 16-year-old girl
NEW ORLEANS (AP) â New Orleans police have identified a body found on Interstate 10 as a 16-year-old girl.
Multiple news outlets reported Tuesday police have identified the victim as Kaylan Ward, a student at McDonogh 35 High School. Ward's body was found around 7 a.m. Thursday just past the exit to Bullard Avenue. An autopsy revealed the teen died of multiple blunt traumatic injuries.
Police said last week Kaylan may have been hit by a car. She was last seen about midnight miles away from where her body was found.
Ward's death is being treated by police as unclassified. Her mother, Kenisha Martin-Nelson, says she does not believe her daughter's death was an accident.
Kaylan's friends and family gathered at a candlelight memorial Tuesday night wearing T-shirts from her April "Sweet 16" party.
