Perch Jerkin' Classic to be held Saturday
The Perch Jerkin' Classic is a non-profit event with a mission to bring children and family together to enjoy the great outdoors. A youth fishing tournament will take place on Saturday, June 27 at the Lockport Bayouside Park. Entry fee is $20 and fishing categories are available for 3 through 15 year olds.
Organizers are partnered with St. Jude Children's Hospital and donate all proceeds to them.
Children fishing the tournament are allowed to fish out of a boat or on land. They can begin fishing at safe day late hours and must weigh their fish in by 4:00 p.m. Children are allowed to weigh in a five fish stringer of bream, a five fish stringer of Sac-a-lait, as well as, their biggest catfish and bass they catch.
The event will be offer jambalaya and drinks for adults and participants. Captain Clyde (Crappie Physic, LLC) will be making an appearance and setting up a display booth showing kids how baits work under the water, as well as, how to properly tie on fishing hooks. A LDWF agent will also make an appearance to discuss topics and provide the kids with games to play.
Also, John Michael (Fox 8 Sports Radio) is bringing a sick girl in the community on an all expense paid fishing trip for her and her father. John is the creator of Fishing with Angels, whose goal is to provide sick or less fortunate children the opportunity to enjoy the joys of being in the outdoors without the worry of the costs.
