Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Lafourche Parish
Larose, LA- Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed after she walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 657 in Larose, LA.
The investigation revealed that Jennifer Landreneaux (W/F age 30) of Larose, LA, was walking south on LA 657 when, for unknown reasons, she walked into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer that was traveling east on LA 657. The Blazer was being driven by William McDonald (W/M age 35) of Waynesboro, MS. McDonald, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Landreneaux was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor, but blood was taken from Landreneaux and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. McDonald submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. Bicycles must also have a lamp mounted on the front that shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front. They shall also have a lamp mounted on the rear that will emit either a flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear.
Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
