Parish President decalres a State Of Emergency, schools to close

The National Weather Service has reported that Lafourche Parish will experience a winter storm with all forms of winter precipitation. Ice accumulation is a significant risk for roadways and electrical lines.

Lafourche Parish Government Offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29. Garbage pickup in Lafourche Parish will also be canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday, but routes will be made up later in the week. The Lafourche Parish Council meeting has been cancelled.

Lafourche Parish Government advises local non-essential businesses to close during this winter weather event due to possible icy roadway conditions. Employees that are on site may have to remain until road conditions improve.

The Lafourche Parish School Board has confirmed that schools will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29. A decision will be made about Thursday on Wednesday evening.

Lafourche Parish Department of Public Works will be monitoring all bridges for ice and are prepared to sand bridges as road conditions allow, but closures will be likely. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will be monitoring highways for traffic and potential ice.

Lafourche Council on Aging will close Tuesday and Wednesday, January 28 and 29 for all services. There will be no meals delivered to home bound clients or to Senior Centers on Thursday, January 30.

Residents are reminded to respect all road closures and police barricades and to drive with extreme caution and reduce speeds if you must be on the roads. Black ice is a significant concern; please stay off the roads during this winter storm. Weather updates can be found on the parish website and Facebook pages.
