One in Custody, Two Others Sought as Detectives Investigate Galliano Armed Robbery

Joey Copous

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced one suspect is in custody and detectives are looking for two others in an armed robbery which occurred during the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 28. Joey Copous (W/M, D.O.B. 02/25/86) of Harvey was arrested about three hours after the incident when Gretna Police located him inside the victim's stolen truck.

At around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, deputies and detectives responded to a residence in the 100 block of East 127th Street in Galliano after receiving a call from the victim of an alleged armed robbery. Through investigation, detectives learned a Galliano man was asleep at his residence when he awoke to the sound of glass breaking, and he was confronted by three men armed with firearms and wearing masks.

The men allegedly demanded money, and the victim surrendered a few dollars he had on his person. The three masked men then allegedly tied up the victim and began searching the home, confiscating several items of value before fleeing the residence in the victim's pickup truck. The victim was able to free himself and contacted the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives sent an alert to surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for the stolen pickup truck. Then at around 5:30 A.M., Gretna Police notified detectives that they had located the vehicle and one person was inside the vehicle who was taken into custody without incident. The subject, later identified as Joey Copous, refused to cooperate with detectives. Gretna police located some of the items stolen from the victim's home inside the truck and charged Copous with two counts of Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. He is currently being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $25,000 for those charges, and he is also being held due to the pending charges in Lafourche Parish related to the incident, including Armed Robbery, Use of a Firearm in an Armed Robbery, False Imprisonment, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The bond for these charges in Lafourche Parish will be set at $1.15 million.

Detectives are currently seeking the two other suspects in this case. They believe one is a white male subject while the other is a black male subject. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Bayou Region Crime Stoppers. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 in cash if the information given leads to an arrest. Tips can be submitted through any one of these methods:
