Nicholls To Rededicate Iconic Campus Fountain Thursday
The iconic Nicholls State University fountain located along Louisiana Hwy. 1 will spring back to life during a rededication ceremony hosted by the university at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.
The rededication ceremony is the culmination of a successful month-long crowd funding campaign organized to repair the iconic campus landmark, which had dried up after several months due to mechanical problems. Through the campaign, Nicholls faculty, staff, students and alumni, along with countless community supporters, helped the university raise its target goal of $25,000, with $15,000 being used to repair the fountain and $10,000 being used to open an endowed Fountain Maintenance Fund that will pay for future repairs.
The Nicholls fountain first debuted at the front of the Thibodaux campus 50 years ago, in 1965. Elsie Braud, with the Thibodaux Rotary Club, helped to secure the initial $15,000 needed to construct the fountain in memory of her late husband, Rotarian Lawrence Braud.
The public is invited to attend the rededication ceremony at the fountain and celebrate this Nicholls icon. Refreshments will be provided. For more information about the fountain, call 985-448-4141.
