Nicholls fills needs in 2017 recruiting class
THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University head football coach Tim Rebowe released the names of the 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon at the Colonels' Signing Day Press Conference presented by Rotolo's at the Harold J. Callais Memorial Recreation Center.
Rebowe, in his third season at the helm of the Colonel program, revealed the 12-member class, which included three mid-year signees and nine local Louisiana high school recruits. While Rebowe has continued to bring in student-athletes from the region, he specifically targeted New Orleans as five recruits came from the greater New Orleans area.
The mid-year signees include two linemen – one offense and one defense – and a kicker. Joining Nicholls next season from the junior college ranks are - Bradston Burnside (Hattiesburg, Miss./Hattiesburg/East Central CC), Lorran Fonseca (Hercules, Calif./Hercules/Contra Costa CC) and Demetrius Gleaton (Pope, Miss./South Panola/East Mississippi CC).
With the large recruiting classes from 2015 and 2016, the program was limited in numbers for this year's group.
Headlining the signees are all-state honorees Dontaze Costly (St. James/St. James), Dai'Jean Dixon (New Orleans/Edna Karr) and Danquan Edwards (New Orleans/De La Salle). The rest of the group – Hunter Bell (Chalmette/Chalmette), Kohen Granier (Destrehan/Destrehan), Grid Isidore, Jr. (Slidell/Salmen), David Mosley (Metairie/Archbishop Rummel), Everett Rodrigue (Houma/Terrebonne) and Zach Trahan (Houma/Vandebilt Catholic) – received several accolades including all-district and all-region.
The Colonels will begin spring practice on Friday, March 17, and their annual Spring Game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11.
