Motorcyclist dies on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish crash
Lockport, LA - Shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, a 48-year old Lockport man was killed on LA 1 after he drove his motorcycle off the road and struck a tree just south of the Valentine Bridge.
A 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north on LA 1, was being driven by Troy Billiot, of Lockport, when Billiot failed to negotiate a left curve on LA 1 and traveled off the right side of the roadway.
After leaving the roadway, the motorcycle traveled down an embankment and ejected both Billiot and his passenger, Melissa Duran, age 41, also of Lockport.
Billiot, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, struck a small tree after he was ejected and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Duran, who was also wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was transported to LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans with moderate injuries.
Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending.
