Mid-level drug dealer and associate arrested as agents seize $6,000 in cash and cocaine

Narcotics agents have arrested a mid-level drug dealer and one of her known associates. Victoria Cheramie, age 26, of 322 W. 107th Street in Cut Off, along with Avia Chouest, age 28, of 125 Louviere Lane in Golden Meadow, were arrested on Wednesday.

Agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force were conducting surveillance in the Raceland area Wednesday after learning through investigation that Victoria Cheramie might be traveling to the New Orleans area to retrieve a quantity of cocaine.

Cheramie is considered to be a mid-level drug dealer in the south Lafourche area and was wanted on two outstanding warrants for distribution of crack cocaine.

At around 8:45 p.m., deputies with the Proactive Police Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle fitting the description of a vehicle Cheramie would reportedly be driving. They immediately confirmed the driver to be Victoria Cheramie, and there was also a small child with her.

Task force agents arrived on the scene to assist, and Cheramie was taken into custody. She was found to have a bag containing approximately 29.2 grams of cocaine, $3,000 in cash, and drug paraphernalia in her possession. The street value of the cocaine was also nearly $3,000.

Agents then executed a search warrant at Cheramie's West 107th Street residence. Upon arriving they discovered Avia Chouest, one of Cheramie's known associates, to be at the residence.

Chouest also had two active warrants for distribution of crack cocaine and was immediately taken into custody. Agents found additional drug paraphernalia during a search of Cheramie's residence.

Cheramie and Chouest were both transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where they were booked on the aforementioned warrants.

Cheramie was additionally booked with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of persons under 17 years old.

She is being held in lieu of $131,000 bond as set by Judge Walter I. Lanier III.

Chouest, meanwhile, is being held in lieu of $65,000 bond as set by Judge John E. LeBlanc, and she is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Cheramie's last arrest was in October 2013 as part of Operation Crackin' Down where she was charged with two counts of distribution of crack cocaine. Narcotics agents indicate their investigation into Cheramie is still continuing and additional arrests in connection are possible.
