Melanie Boulet named 2017 Louisiana History Teacher of the Year

Larose-native, Melanie Boulet, a teacher at the New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School (Sci High), has been named the 2017 Louisiana History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.

In 1982, Boulet received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and, after teaching for a couple of years, served in the United States Peace Corps in Paraguay. She completed a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Harvard University and has just completed her 25th year as a classroom teacher.

The award will be presented by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Eric Foner at a ceremony in New York City on November 8, 2017.
