Lucy Russo Gourgues passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28th, at the age of 89.
The daughter of Italian immigrants, she was born in Brooklyn New York and was a long time resident of Thibodaux.
Mrs. Gourgues is survived by 6 children, Michael, Bob, and Bill Gourgues, and Diana Luikart, Toni Hernandez, and Missy Landry; 14 grandchildren, Michael Gourgues II, Matthew Gourgues, Helena Carroll, Olivia Doucet, Josh, Tina, John Paul and Patrick Hernandez, Leslie Favela, Jackie and Maria Landry, and David, Ben and Anna Gourgues; 6 surviving great-grandchildren include Dennon, Dawson, Aiden, Abigaile, Madeline and Peyton.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Col. Harold Walter Gourgues; her parents, Joseph Russo and Antionette Russo; brothers, Jackie Russo and Larry Russo; sister, Anne Russo and one grand child, Katie Hernandez.
Mrs. Gourgues was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in both church, school and civic activities in Lafourche Parish and Thibodaux.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 2nd from 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with internment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
