Louisiana State Police redeploy troopers to New Orleans
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Additional state troopers will redeploy this week to the City of New Orleans to support the New Orleans Police Department's efforts to deter crime.
Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said Wednesday they've been planning the redeployment since the completion of this year's Mardi Gras detail. Edmonson says troopers will be proactive, policing with an "all crimes" approach focusing on illegal guns, illegal weapons and fugitives. Enforcement efforts will use uniformed vehicle and foot patrol, plainclothes investigative operations and commercial vehicle enforcement.
Upward of 60 uniformed troopers were expected in those areas beginning Thursday.
