Local Nicholls State nursing students are going on a mission trip
Four Nicholls State nursing students and nursing professor, Shane Robichaux, are going to head out to Kingston, Jamaica, from July 26 to August 1 on a mission trip. Missionaries of the Poor are overseeing the mission work in Jamaica. The group was able to make the trip due to a $1,200 donation from the Cardiovascular Institute of the South.
The students will spend those days assisting people to meet basic needs, such as bathing, feeding and cleaning at the shelter. Most of the people they will be working with are handicapped and cannot take care of themselves. Because nursing is a service-oriented profession, this type of first-hand experience will be very beneficial to the students.
The students, who are all local, actually approached Robichaux about wanting to do a mission trip as underclassmen. Now, they're all upperclassmen.
