Local donation drop off sites seeking supplies for flood victims

Local donation drop off sites seeking supplies for flood victims

One of the most beautiful aspects of Cajun life, is how individuals band together to help those in need. Though Louisiana has taken a catastrophic hit, stories of hope, love and compassion have shined through the bleakness.

With the Lafourche area spared from rising flood waters that pushed our brother and sister Cajuns out of their homes in other parts of the state, natives in the southern part of the state jumped into action organizing donation drop off sites, donation hauls and even rescue missions with their own boats.

Most websites and organizations say that the main need at this moment is for water, food (including infant formula), toiletries (adult and infant) and cleaning supplies.

Some shelters are only taking certain items as they are being bombarded with too much of one thing, such as clothing. Listed below are some of the other supplies sought for the thousands upon thousands of people who are being housed in shelters:

Baby wipes, diapers, toilet paper, laundry detergent, feminine products, new socks/underwear, general hygiene products, combs and brushes, sanitizer, pillows, blankets, towels, paper towels, cleaning products, bleach, gloves, masks, brooms, shovels, non-perishable and microwavable food items with pull tab tops, baby formula, baby bottles, adult diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, car seats, bottled water, Ziplocs, plastic utensils, phone chargers, Children’s Motrin and Tylenol, bandages, to go boxes, toiletries, disposable diaper bags, pacifiers, diaper rash cream, clothing of all sizes for infants, children, men and women, coloring books and colors for children, small stuffed animals or toys, band-aids, first aid kits, maternity clothing, Wal-Mart or grocery store plastic bags, totes, blankets, school uniforms, bedding, etc.
