Limited cell phone use now allowed at CLHS
Central Lafourche High School was the only high school in the parish to ban cell phone use.
Not any more. That’s changed.
Not only can the devices be used, students don’t have to hide them anymore.
Last Wednesday, the School Board adopted a modified electronic devices policy that allows students to use devices in designated areas and in the classroom with the teacher’s approval.
According to the Daily Comet, a similar policy for cellphones has been in place at South Lafourche and Thibodaux high schools for two years, but Central Lafourche’s plan expands to include tablet computers, e-readers and similar devices.
Central Lafourche Principal Chris Kimball said all policies establish “green zones”, where students can use their devices, and “red zones”, where they can’t.
Green zones include open areas, like hallways and bus ramps, while red zones include places like bathrooms and changing rooms.
Classrooms, depending on the teacher, can be green or red, Kimball said. The teachers have full control.
