Larose woman arrested for stealing a relative’s credit card and checks
Lacie Cheramie, 34, of Larose was arrested on Friday, August 19 after deputies responded to a complaint in reference to Cheramie allegedly stealing checks from a relative.
After an investigation, deputies learned Cheramie also had used the victim’s credit card three weeks prior and made over $1,000 in unauthorized charges before giving the card back to the victim.
Cheramie admitted to making the charges, saying she intended to pay her relative back, but she had made no attempt to do so by that time. She further admitted to taking several checks from the relative and using them to make purchases at a local store.
Investigators later determined she had forged seven checks with a total amount of purchases at nearly $1,000.
After questioning, Cheramie was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. She was booked with seven (7) counts of Forgery, Unauthorized Use of an Access Card as Theft, and Misdemeanor Theft. Her bond is set at $11,000.
Sheriff Webre urges anyone who may be a victim of theft, or knows someone taking advantage of a relative in this manner, to please contact the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 532-2255 to report the crime.
