MATHEWS, La. (AP) — The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will offer a free hunter safety course Aug. 24-25.
The course is open to anyone 10 years old or older.
The Aug. 24 class will be at the Parish Government Complex on Louisiana Highway 1 in Mathews. The Aug. 25 class will be at the sheriff's shooting range on Louisiana Highway 182 in Raceland.
The two-day course covers hunter responsibility and ethics, firearms safety, survival and first aid, hunting techniques, wildlife identification, game care and wildlife conservation and management.
Participants must attend both days of classes and pass written and practical exams to be certified.
Advance registration is required and may be made online the "Training" section of the sheriff's website, http://www.lpso.net/training.htm.
