Lady of the Sea announces the opening of the new After Hours clinic!

The South Lafourche community now has a convenient walk-in clinic location during evenings and weekends for medical care of minor illnesses, injuries and infections. Open 7 days a week, Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the After Hours Clinic is located at 186 West 134th Street, directly across from the hospital’s Emergency Room.

In the spring of 2014, Lady of the Sea conducted a community assessment where they asked members of the community for input on their health needs and opportunities for improvement. The input was then prioritized and Lady of the Sea seriously considered the different ways they could impact the health and wellness of the South Lafourche community.

“The number one recommendation that came out of all of our community assessment small groups was the serious need for some type of after-hours care for the non-emergent medical needs of our community,” said Karen Collins, RN, CEO of Lady of the Sea General Hospital.

In fact, some of the direct quotes from participants included, “should be a top priority” and “local residents have nowhere else to go after hours except the ER.”

The new Lady of the Sea After-Hours clinic opened on Monday, January 5, 2015, and began seeing patients as soon as the doors were opened.

“From day one, the clinic has been well received by our community,” said Tad Lafont, RN, Chief Clinic Officer for Lady of the Sea General Hospital. “Patients are both happy and excited to have this service available. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants provide patient care within the clinic in collaboration with Lady of the Sea physicians. Many of these providers work within our Family Medicine clinics and are available for follow up appointments.”

Patients experience minimal wait times. The clinic is a walk-in clinic, so no appointments are necessary, and multiple exam rooms are available for patients to receive care.

The clinic provides convenient care for common illnesses, injuries and infections, such as ear infections, fever, cuts that need stitches, severe sore throat, cold/flu, sprains and strains, vomiting/diarrhea, and minor injuries.

At the After Hours clinic, health care is provided for all ages, and radiology and lab services are available on-site.

“Our mission statement has been our guiding force through many changes, and it reads ‘Lady of the Sea General Hospital exists to provide high quality healthcare in a personalized manner to those we serve.’ Our new After Hours clinic is a great example of how we are adapting to meet the healthcare needs of our community,” said Karen Collins, CEO of Lady of the Sea General Hospital and Clinics.

The clinic hours are Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, the new Lady of the Sea Community Pharmacy located in Frank’s Supermarket in Larose is opened until 7 p.m. weekdays, and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Patients who require prescription medication can have their prescriptions sent over to the Community Pharmacy electronically to save time upon pick up.

Collins stated: “Our goal is to meet the healthcare needs of our community and with the opening of our new After Hours clinic and our new Community Pharmacy, we feel as though we are moving closer to achieving that goal.”
