It’s Back to School time … don’t forget your library

Summer reading is over, but that doesn’t mean you should forget the library.

At the Lafourche Parish Public Library, there are many resources available to help both students and parents navigate the new school year. Some are print, some electronic. Some are available only in the library; some you can access right from home.

Let your library staff members know what you need, and they’ll be happy to help.

HOMEWORK LOUISIANA
Homework Louisiana is a free, live online tutoring service provided by the State Library of Louisiana to Louisiana residents and available through local public libraries. It provides live one-on-one help for those in kindergarten through college from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays.

Tutors are experts in their field and will thoroughly explain concepts to students having difficulty. They will assist students in arriving at the correct answers, but will not do the work for them. That is, they won’t simply give students the correct answer; they’ll make them work for it. Tutors undergo rigorous screening processes, both academic and otherwise, to ensure that students will be given quality assistance and will be safe online.

Tutoring is available for both children and adults. Homework Louisiana, powered by Tutor.com, provides tutoring in English, math, science and social studies, as well as high school equivalency and other test preparation, job help, and citizenship tests.

To take advantage of this free service, visit www.lafourche.org and click on “Live Homework Help.” A Tutor.com to go app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
