Injured Tarpon out of surgery
A South Lafourche High School freshman remains in serious condition at University Hospital in New Orleans after undergoing surgery for a severe brain injury he suffered in practice on Tuesday.
Ninth grader Trevor Toups was injured after suffering a hit to his upper body during yesterday’s practice. After receiving prompt medical assistance from the coaching staff and the school’s trainer, Toups was taken to a local hospital.
He was then airlifted to University Hospital after being diagnosed with a swollen brain and brain bleeding. Once transported, he underwent surgery for the injuries.
South Lafourche football coach Dennis Skains said the Tarpons have canceled tonight’s freshman and junior varsity football games because of Toups injury.
South Lafourche students gathered together this morning for a giant prayer session in honor of the injured student.
