Helen Ruth Dardar Gindrat, 83, a resident of the Broadway in Lockport and a native of Golden Meadow, passed away on November 21, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Ann Bouzigard; sons, Lorris “LJ” Bouzigard, Jr., Clifton Bouzigard and Timothy Bouzigard and his wife Lisa Theriot Bouzigard and extended family Ed Patterson and Ace Toups and Pamela Duke. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Todd Garvin, Billie-Jo Griffin, CheraKee Bouzigard Epperly and husband Thomas Epperly, Jamie Griffin and Timothy Bouzigard, Jr. and eleven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by parents, John Dardar and Bridgette Williams, her husband Danny Gindrat, her daughter Bridgette Bouzigard Griffin, her sister Rita Dardar Crosby, and her six brothers, Louis, Walter, Frank, Philip, Raymond and Hanna Dardar.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Family Center, located at 18119 E. Main (Hwy. 308), Galliano. Interment is to follow at Cheramie Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Christian Family Center.
She was an elected tribal chairperson, Houma Tribe-1972-1979, executive director, Governor’s Commission on Indian Affairs, State of Louisiana. Former acting executive director of the United Houma Nation. Service as director of adult education, administrator/planning/program development. Expertise in programs for aging, community services, housing, education, Lafourche Parish School Board, Advisory Committee for Indian Affairs 1974. Activities on behalf of women include involvement in education, disable women, aging and employment programs.
