Grand Isle Fire Department receives upgraded fire protection rating

The Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Co. No.1 (GIVFD) proudly announces that following an evaluation performed by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL), it has received a classification improvement to a Class 4 for residential and commercial properties.

Formerly a Class 6, the new classification will result in both residential and commercial property insurance rates located within the boundaries of GIVFD to receive the new improved Class 4 rates.

The Public Fire Protection Classification Survey performed every five years by PIAL evaluates a variety of areas within the GIVFD such as communications, operations, engine apparatus, and personal training.

This marks not only the largest classification improvement, but also the best classification rating in department history.

“I would like to thank all of the employees and volunteers of the FIVFD who made this improvement possible,” said Asst. Fire Chief Keeland Cheramie. “This marks the start of a new chapter within the fire department under a new administration. It is the duty and responsibility of the GIVFD to provide the Town of Grand Isle and Jefferson Parish with the best fire protection services and we will provide nothing short of that. On behalf of the GIVFD I would like to thank the Jefferson Parish Council, FIVFD Board of Directors, Chief Joel Bradberry, and most importantly the people of Grand Isle. Nothing would be possible without the ongoing support and hard work from the community.”

This improvement from a Class 6 to Class 4 is set to go into effect as of September 11.
