Golden Meadow skate park back on track
A Golden Meadow skate park is back on track after the Lafourche Parish Council reallocated money to the project.
According to Daily Comet, the project faced delays after the lowest bid from Picciola Construction came in at least $74,000 over budget on Dec. 10. The council voted to move $49,592 to the project from the budget for Oak Ridge Park in Golden Meadow.
The new skate park will be located near the pool at Oak Ridge Park.
The proposal to pay more for the skate park came from Councilman Daniel Lorraine, who represents the district. The council previously set aside $250,000 for the project.
Project engineer John Plaisance, of J. Wayne Plaisance, said officials are in the process of getting the construction contracts signed, and construction should begin next month and take about six weeks.
The Spohn Ranch Skateparks in Los Angeles assisted with the designs for the park. The town of Golden Meadow and the Parish Council also took public input for the design last July at a workshop and released the proposed plans a few weeks later.
