Golden Meadow Man Charged in Multiple Weekend Incidents

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Golden Meadow man involved in multiple incidents this past weekend. Lionelle Cheramie, 25, of 164 East 179th Street in Golden Meadow faces multiple charges following his arrest on Sunday evening, July 27th.

During the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26, deputies responded to an East Main Street residence in Golden Meadow in reference to an unauthorized use of a vehicle. Through investigation, deputies learned Cheramie had been at the East Main Street the previous day and had allegedly acquired the keys without the owner's knowledge. At some point overnight, Cheramie went back to the residence to obtain the pickup truck and drove away. The truck's owner received a call around 4 a.m. alerting her that her vehicle was missing from her driveway. As she went outside to inspect her driveway, Cheramie allegedly drove up to the residence and returned the truck and keys before departing without any communication with the owner.

Deputies were unable to locate Cheramie at that time, and a warrant was issued for his arrest for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Later that same day, deputies responded to a theft complaint at a Galliano department store. Through investigation, deputies learned Cheramie was identified on surveillance video as having stolen a cell phone from the store from which he had previously been banned. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday. Additional warrants were issued for theft of goods and entering after being forbidden.

Then at 6 p.m. on the following day, Sunday, July 27, deputies responded to a complaint of a fight in the area of Cheramie's residence. A Golden Meadow Police Officer who was nearby was the first to respond to the scene, but the alleged fight had already ended, and there were no signs of the subjects. The officer did, however, notice the door to Cheramie's residence to be open, and attempted to make contact with him. Deputies arrived and eventually, Cheramie emerged from the residence. He was then taken into custody on the aforementioned warrants as well as an additional outstanding warrant for contempt of court.

Cheramie was initially transported to the South Lafourche Sub-station in Cut Off. As deputies tried to escort him for transport to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, Cheramie lunged at the deputies, allegedly attempting to head-butt them. He continued to resist violently, but deputies restrained him and placed him in a unit for transport to Thibodaux. During the transport, Cheramie moved his hands in the handcuffs to the front of his body and allegedly damaged wiring he discovered inside the car, damaging an electronic device inside the unit.

He was booked into the Detention Center on the aforementioned warrants, and he was also booked on charges of resisting an officer violently and simple criminal damage to property. He remains in jail in lieu of $27,000 bond as set by Judge John LeBlanc and per the warrants issued by Judge F. Hugh Larose.
