Golden Meadow-Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo rodeo begins Thursday

Festivities are set to begin Thursday at Fourchon Marina at Port Fourchon as the 65th Annual Golden Meadow – Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo kicks off the long July 4th weekend. 

The rodeo runs from July 4th through July 6th with headquarters at the marina located at 288 Floatation Canal Rd., Port Fourchon.  Serving as the Rodeo Admiral for 2013 is Brent Bankston, who will open the festivities at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th, with music to follow that evening.

Also new to the rodeo this year will be a kayak division and bow fishing division.

Scales for the rodeo open on Friday, July 5th, at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, scales open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. for the children’s division, at 5:00 p.m. for the scuba division, and at 6:00 p.m. for the hook and line and bow fishing divisions. 

Awards will be presented in each division after the scales close.  Music begins each night at 7:00 p.m. and food and drink booths will also be open throughout the day for attendees. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the weekend.

Tickets for the rodeo are $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for children and can be purchased at B&B Hardware in Larose, Camardelle’s Bait Shop in Cheniere, Fourchon Marina, which also serves as rodeo headquarters, Gail’s Bait Shop in Leeville, Griffin’s Station and Marina in Leeville, Golden Meadow True Value, Hwy. 1 in Golden Meadow, H&R Sports Bar in Cut Off, Kief Hardware in Cut Off, T-Pops Convenience Store in Golden Meadow, Tyd’s, Hwy. 1 in Leeville, Moran’s Marine in Fourchon, Renovations in Galliano, and Sand Dollar Marina in Grand Isle.  

Funds generated by the rodeo go towards college scholarship funds and technical college scholarship funds for qualified graduates of South Lafourche High School.  More information is available on the rodeo’s website, www.gmfourchon
