GM Tarpon Rodeo kicking off holiday weekend Thursday
Festivities are set to begin Thursday at Fourchon Marina at Port Fourchon as the 66th Annual Golden Meadow – Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo kicks off the long July 4th weekend.
The rodeo runs from July 3rd through July 5th with headquarters at the marina located at 288 Flotation Canal Rd., Port Fourchon.
Serving as the Rodeo Admiral for 2014 is Sen. Norby Chabert, who will open the festivities at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd, with music and a fireworks display to follow at 8:45.
Scales for the rodeo open on Friday, July 4th, at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Food booths open at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, scales open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. for the children’s division, at 5:00 p.m. for the scuba division, and at 6:00 p.m. for the hook and line and bow fishing divisions.
Awards will be presented in each division after the scales close. Music begins each night at 7:00 p.m. and food and drink booths will also be open. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the weekend.
Tickets for the rodeo are $25 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased at B&B Hardware in Larose, Camardelle’s Bait Shop in Cheniere, Fourchon Marina, which also serves as rodeo headquarters, Gail’s Bait Shop in Leeville, Griffin’s Station and Marina in Leeville, Golden Meadow True Value, H&R Sports Bar in Cut Off, Kief Hardware in Cut Off, Moran’s Marina in Fourchon, Renovations in Galliano, Sand Dollar Marina in Grand Isle, Teche Electric in Golden Meadow, and Tyd’s in Leeville.
Funds generated by the rodeo go towards college scholarships and technical college scholarship funds for qualified graduates of South Lafourche High School. More information is available at www.gmfourchontarponrodeo.com.
