Gheens woman charged for stealing from elderly
On Thursday, October 23, detectives opened an investigation after a Lockport woman reported cash having been stolen from her residence. Detectives learned the complainant had suffered an injury several years ago and required contracted caretakers at her residence.
One of those caretakers, Reba Yates, 27, of Gheens, was hired in September. Detectives discovered evidence that Yates recently stole money from the woman's purse while assisting her and obtained a warrant for Yates' arrest.
Deputies made contact with Yates at her home in Gheens, and she was arrested on the warrant for exploitation of the infirmed, a felony.
Yates was transported to the Detention Center and booked accordingly. She was released Thursday night after posting $500 bond as set by Judge Barbera.
