Funeral services for George J. Cheramie was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 31 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack West officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Deville.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday, January 30 from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. and resumed on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
George J. Cheramie, 82, of Deville passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
He was preceded in death by parents, Elie and Eva Nola Cheramie; sister, Felanise Drolla; brothers, Dudley, Ashton and Alex Cheramie and grandson, Cody Cheramie.
George a native of Golden Meadow, served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid fisherman both commercial and recreational. George was a general “jack of all trades,” which included, boat captain, horse jockey, bus driver and inventor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many, George will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 36 years, Margaret George Cheramie of Deville, four children, Donna Cheramie Neumiller and her husband George of Chalmette, Tammy Cheramie of Grand Prairie, TX, Darrell George Cheramie and his wife Holly of Youngsville, Julian Cheramie and his wife Ashley of Deville, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind one brother, Jasper Cheramie and his wife Audrey of Lockport; sisters, Jane Scheuermann and her husband Dan of Baton Rouge, and Joycelyn Rodriguez of Metairie, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
