Garza named French Food Grand Marshal XL

There have been many men in the community that have held the honor of being named French Food Festival Grand Marshal, following in the lines of this great tradition of civic minded, generous and supportive contributors, we are proud to name Mr. Jose Garza as festival Grand Marshal XL.

Jose is a native of Texas and long time resident of Bayou Lafourche. He moved with his family to Golden Meadow around the time he began public school, later moving to Larose where he still resides. Jose is the son of the late Jose, Sr. and Rosa Garza. He grew up with many siblings, some of which still help in his festival booth, or by baking cakes or selling tickets as part of French Food Festival’s important volunteer corps. His siblings are Paula Garza, George Garza, Xavier Garza, GG Garza, Rosa Garza, Ragin Dawson and the late Myrna Garza. Jose and Becky are the proud uncle and aunt to many nieces and nephews in their large family. He is a 1976 graduate of South Lafourche High School and has been employed since by Latelco, which is now Vision Communications.

Jose has few hobbies but loves them all fiercely…they include hunting, fishing and helping in all things Larose Civic Center. Some of Jose’s many roles at the center included working French Food Festival since 1978, when his then employer, Latelco suggested he volunteer for the festival. He since has become the longest standing booth chairperson in festival history, running the ever popular, Jose’s Bar!

He was instrumental in the building and running of the Bantam Football Field, he assisted with running power to the long standing tennis courts, helped Mr. EJ LeBlanc to re-build the Scout Shelter, run thousands of feet of gas, water and sewer lines throughout the park and has been a server and cook at both the Wild Game Supper and the Martini Mixer for many years. Jose has also done work on the baseball fields and assisted with time and equipment while Kellygrove Campground was being built. Jose also coached Jared in several park-supported sports including Bantam Football.

Jose is married to Becky LeBlanc Garza they are the proud parents to one son, Jared. Jose and Becky have been married since 1980. Becky’s Dad, Mr. EJ LeBlanc, proudly served as the French Food Festival Grand Marshal XXV in 2002.

When asking Jose what were some of his favorite things about the French Food Festival, his response was “getting to see all of the different people (in the community) and to visit with them.” Some of Jose’s favorite fair foods are (Falgout family) Alligator Sauce Piquante, Shrimp Boulettes and the popular Boucherie plate lunch with Grillades, Routee and more!

Grand Marshal XL, Mr. Jose Garza, would like to invite everyone, from near and far, to visit the French Food Festival October 27 – 29 at the Larose Regional Park where we will enjoy cold beer, great Cajun food, the best in dancing music and perfect weather! See ya’ll at the fair! www.bayoucivicclub.org or 985-693-7355 for more information.
