Galliano Man Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash
Leeville, LA- Shortly after 8:30 am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 64 year old Galliano man on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish.
The investigation revealed that a 2000 Dodge Ram was pulling out of a private drive and attempted to make a northbound turn onto LA 1. The Dodge was being driven by James Guidry, 64, of Galliano. The Dodge pulled into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling south on LA 1. The Chevrolet was being driven by Merissa Shambach, 20, of Golden Meadow.
The two vehicles struck in the southbound lane of LA 1, just south of Golden Meadow. Guidry, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Shambach, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Our Lady of the Sea Hospital with minor injuries.
Shambach submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation. Impairment is not suspected for Guidry, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
