Galliano Man Charged With Rape, Battery And False Imprisonment Following Weekend Incident

Lee Hartman

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Galliano man who allegedly raped a woman after holding her captive inside a home over the weekend. Lee Hartman (W/M, D.O.B. 02/04/86) of 156 Jerica Street faces charges of rape, battery and false imprisonment in the incident.

At around 12:15 p.m. on Monday, January 27, deputies and detectives responded to Hartman's Jerica Street residence where Hartman had allegedly been holding a woman against her will since Friday, January 24. Through investigation, detectives learned Hartman and the woman were arguing on Friday night, and Hartman allegedly did not allow the woman to leave the residence, nor did he allow her to use a telephone, threatening her with several knives and other objects throughout the weekend. Hartman was reportedly acting very strangely during the time and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. At one point, Hartman allegedly forced the woman to have sexual intercourse against her will, again threatening the woman with a knife. He had also allegedly poked her in the eye with an object and threatened to kill the woman if she called law enforcement.

At one point on the morning of Monday, January 27, another man arrived at the residence and began arguing with Hartman. During that time, the woman was able to contact the Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived and were able to take Hartman into custody without incident. Detectives questioned Hartman about the incident, and Hartman admitted to several aspects of the incident, but he claimed he could not remember everything. He also admitted to smoking Methamphetamine on Friday night prior to the incident.

Following questioning, Hartman was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Aggravated Rape, Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and False Imprisonment while Armed with a Dangerous Weapon. He was also found to have an existing warrant for Contempt of Court and was booked accordingly. Hartman is currently being held in lieu of $450,200 bond as set by Judge Walter I. Lanier III.
