The Fourchon Oilman’s Association, Inc. has awarded over $97,000 in grants to local schools and organizations in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes.
The grant awards were announced during a presentation Thursday afternoon, December 20, at the Greater Lafourche Port Commission Administrative Office in Galliano. Representatives from each school and organization were present to accept their grant awards.
The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program was awarded a $10,000 grant for their continuing efforts on coastal restoration. Grant awards of $5,000 each were presented to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lafourche, Dominicans of the Monastery of the Heart of Jesus, and Friends of Special Citizens for building improvements and renovations.
The Fourchon Oilman’s Association also awarded grants to several area schools for various projects. Holy Rosary Catholic School in Larose received $5,000 to help fund cafeteria improvements. St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Thibodaux was awarded $5,000 for campus safety. Golden Meadow Upper Elementary School received $4,597 to fund classroom improvements, and four other schools were awarded $4,500 each for the same purpose, including Cut Off Elementary School, Larose Lower Elementary School, South Lafourche High School, and Holy Savior Catholic School in Lockport.
Awards of $2,500 were each presented to Vanderbilt Catholic High School, St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic School, and St. Mary Nativity Catholic School. Vanderbilt will use the $2,500 for transportation costs. St. Gregory‘s award will be used for a technology project, and St. Mary Nativity’s will use their funding for roof repairs.
Fletcher Technical Community College was donated $5,000 for a scholarship. The Nicholls State College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Physical Sciences will also each receive $1,000 to purchase equipment for research. The association also awarded the Nicholls Foundation a $1,000 grant to help restore the Mary Danos Theater.
Additionally, $2,500 grants were given to the Lafourche Education Foundation and the Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence to be used for teacher grants and a literacy program, respectively.
The association also donated the following amounts to local organizations for various purposes:
- $3,500 grants to V.H. Boudreaux Senior Center (for roof repairs) and the Bayou Bell Ringers (for operating expenses).
- $3,000 grant to The Haven, Inc. for family violence prevention.
- $2,500 grants to The Bayou Playhouse (for BayouKidz program) and Restore or Retreat (for education and engagement activities).
- $1,000 grants to Fraternus of South Lafourche (for mission work), Israelite Baptist Church (for a construction project), Lafourche Shrine Club (for hospital support), Les Reflections du Bayou (for the Gift for Life program), and the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center (for educational programs).
Lafourche and Terrebonne schools and organizations in need of funding were asked to apply for a grant from the association with this year’s deadline being November 15.
In 2011, the Fourchon Oilman’s Association donated over $62,000 to 10 local schools and organizations.
Recently, the Fourchon Oilman’s Association (FOA) helped facilitate a donation to the organization A Child’s Wish. The organization is currently conducting a raffle fundraiser for a 21ft. Contender boat, motor and trailer valued at $58,000 and other prizes for second and third places. The drawing will be held March 10, 2013 and winners need not be present. The Fourchon Oilman’s Association, Inc. was established in 2011 by a group of oil and gas industry professionals to utilize the resources of their respective industries in conjunction with Port Fourchon to foster goodwill throughout our surrounding communities.
