Fourchon Oilman’s Association awards $40,211 to local nonprofits


The Fourchon Oilman’s Association (FOA) presented 16 local nonprofits with grant awards totaling $40,211 last week during a grants ceremony at the Greater Lafourche Port Commission headquarters in Galliano.

The grants were selected and funded by the FOA from proceeds of the 2018 FOA Invitational Fishing Rodeo and are being distributed through the Bayou Community Foundation as part of an ongoing partnership between the two local foundations.

“Fourchon Oilman’s Association is committed to giving back to our Lafourche and Terrebonne communities that support our local industry and the local residents who work in our oil and gas industry,” said FOA President Eddie Callais. “We are excited to once again provide grants to local nonprofits that are doing great work to educate our young people, feed the hungry, serve our neighbors with disabilities, support mothers and children in need, and enhance our environment.”

Grant recipients included:

- Children’s Water Safety Awareness - $1,500 for swimming lessons and CPR training

- Cut Off Elementary School - $1,500 for classroom laptops

- Golden Meadow Middle School - $1,500 for instructional resources and Chromebooks

- Holy Rosary Catholic School - $1,500 for interactive whiteboard

- Larose Cut Off Middle School - $1,500 for classroom Chromebooks

- Les Reflection du Bayou - $1,500 for Braxton’s Gift for Life water survival program

- Second Harvest Food Bank - $1,500 for School Pantry at Southdown Elementary School in Houma

- Special Olympics of LA - $1,500 for Unified Champion Schools program in Lafourche and Terrebonne

- Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence - $1,500 for Dolly Parton Imagination Library

- Virtual Academy of Lafourche - $1,500 for K-4th grade reading books

- W.S. Lafargue Elementary School - $1,500 for classroom Chromebooks

- South Lafourche High School 4-H Club - $1,500 for 4-H University scholarships and awards banquet

- Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center - $2,500 for Car Seat Safety program

- Recreational Fisheries Research Institute - $3,900 for marine fisheries research in Gulf of Mexico

- We Can All Ring, Inc - $4,311 for hand bell traveling cases

- LA Wildlife & Fisheries Foundation - $5,000 for sea turtle scientific research

- Restore or Retreat - $5,000 for “Working for our Coast” educational program for students

- Bayou Community Foundation - $1,000 for its work to address critical community needs
