The Fourchon Oilman’s Association, Inc., has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to local high school students who are planning to continue their education.
Ronnie Collins and Aidan Eymard were each awarded $4,000 for the University Scholarship awards, and Jobie Chiasson was awarded $1,000 for the Technical School Scholarship award. All are graduating seniors at South Lafourche High School.
Collins is planning to attend Nicholls State University where he plans to major in Maritime Management. He hopes to follow his family’s footsteps and eventually own and manage marine vessels in the oilfield industry.
As an honor student at South Lafourche, Collins was a member of the National Honor Society and Varsity Track. He was also one of the founding members of Sassafras Louisiana, dedicated to getting the youth involved in protecting coastal Louisiana.
Eymard is planning to major in Civil Engineering at Louisiana State University. Eymard was highly involved in extracurricular activities at South Lafourche where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl Team, Varsity Soccer Team, and Freshman Baseball Team. Eymard was also a Senior Class Officer and a participant at Louisiana Boys State and the State Literary Rally.
Chiasson is planning to attend Baton Rouge Community College to eventually become a Petroleum Engineer. He was a Captain on the South Lafourche Soccer Team. In his scholarship essay, Chiasson outlined how he would be the fourth generation of his family to work in an oilfield-related industry.
To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must be a graduating senior with a grade point average of at least 2.5. The applicant must be attending a Lafourche or Terrebonne school and plan to attend a college in Louisiana.
Each applicant must also have at least one parent employed or be a member or sponsor of the Fourchon Oilman’s Association and must submit an essay on how the oil industry influenced his/her life.
The Fourchon Oilman’s Association, Inc. was established in 2011 by a group of oil and gas industry professionals to utilize the resources of their respective industries in conjunction with Port Fourchon to foster goodwill throughout our surrounding communities.
An invitational fishing tournament is held annually to help raise money. In 2012, the Fourchon Oilman’s Association awarded over $97,000 in grants to local schools and organizations in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes.
