Food, fun and festivities on tap for the weekend in Gheens

44th Annual Bon Mange Festival begins Friday

Put your dancing shoes on and bring your appetites to the 44th Annual Gheens Bon Mange Festival this weekend.

The Festival will feature music from some of the best local talent around. Sounds from bands like Southern Cross, Pot 2 La, and the Ross Grisham Band, will be featured all weekend, along with rides and activities for the kids and good Cajun food to whet your appetite.

The Festival offers free parking and free admission. Bands and food will be located in the air-conditioned Gheens Community Center, located four miles down Highway 654.

Live auctions are planned at different times throughout the weekend.

The Festival kicks off Friday, June 2, at 6 p.m. with entertainment from 5-Shot Chamber through 9 p.m. Southern Cross will entertain the crowd from 10 p.m. to festival closing time at 2 a.m.

Saturday’s entertainment begins at 11 a.m. with music by The Rockin’ Oldies, followed by the Member’s Only Band at 4 p.m. Junior Lacrosse and Sumtin’ Sneaky will rock the crowd from 9 p.m. until closing at 1 a.m.

Sunday’s festivities begin at 11 a.m. with music by Pot 2 La, followed by The Ross Grisham Band from 3 p.m. to closing time at 7 p.m.

Along with this impressive list of talent, enjoy the food the festival will offer all weekend, such as seafood gumbo, chicken and sausage gumbo, jambalaya, catfish platters, white beans with catfish or griads, fried fish, shrimp po-boys, griad po-boys, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, cracklins, and more. Also, why cook when you can enjoy a baked chicken and rice dressing dinner on Sunday.
