Elder law boot camp slated for July 16
Southeast Louisiana Elder Law Boot Camp will be held on Thursday, July 16 from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Warren Harang, Jr. Municipal Auditorium, 310 N. Canal Blvd. in Thibodaux.
Hosted by the Lafourche Council on Aging, St. Charles Council on Aging, St. John Council on Aging and the St. James Council on Aging and Governor’s Office of Elderly Affairs and Elder Law Task Force.
This free educational seminar is presented as a community service and will cover issues affecting seniors, their caregivers, loved ones and professionals:
Estate Planning Issues: What constitutes community property, what is usufruct, do I need a last will and testament, advance directives-health care powers of attorney and living wills, when is an interdiction necessary – does it help to have a durable power of attorney and non-probate assets and beneficiary designation.
Public Benefits: What is the VA Aid and Attendance pension, who qualifies for LA Medicaid, how to freeze your social security number to avoid identify theft and social security administration benefits.
Scams: Disaster/home repair, door to door/internet financial exploitation.
